Peter Ortega

Peter Ortega passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023 at the age of 89. Pete was born on April 24,1934  to father Cirilo Ortega and mother Magdalena Ortega. He enlisted and served in the United States Marines Corp during the Korean War, and was a retired Chicago Police Detective. An avid golfer, bowler, electrician and woodworker, Pete had a busy and fulfilling retirement spent enjoying his hobbies and helping his family and neighbors. Peter is survived by his children, Susan Hedgecock (Chris), Sharon Smorczewski (Darek), David Ortega (Johnny); grandchildren Samantha, Mathew, Ryen, Cathryn, Charlie, Holley; great grandchildren Gram, Miles, Wyatt,  Rhys; his sister Lucy Mendez, and brothers Joseph Ortega and Michael Ortega. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sebastion (Shine) Ortega, Raymond (Corky) Ortega, John Ortega, Manuel Ortega, and sister Dolores Leon. Peter’s life was honored and celebrated at his home with his large and loving family in attendance.
